To play a game of Blackjack players must place a wager before cards are dealt. Once wagers have been placed, each player is served two face-up cards. The dealer will receive one card face up and one card face down. From that point, the player can decide to Hit or Stand.
Blackjack Origins: The origin of Blackjack is still debated; the most popular belief is that it originated in French casinos around 1700 due to its mention in Cervantes's novel Don Quixote, which dates to the late 16th/early 17th century. Then, the game was referred to as 'Vingt-et-un' which translates to 21 in French.
Can I increase my bet in blackjack? Unlike in other casino games, as a blackjack player you can increase your bet in favorable situations, known as Double-Down. After you choose to increase your bet, you'll only get dealt one more card and won't be able to hit again. You must stand.
What is a split? The split is offered when a player's initial two-card hand includes two cards of the same value. It gives the player the option of splitting the cards into two separate hands, then receiving additional cards as needed for each hand from the dealer.
Why was 21 chosen for Blackjack? Thought to derive from another popular card game called Chemin de Fer, also originating in French casinos, Blackjack was first known as Vingt-et-Un, which simply translates to Twenty-One.
What are the odds of winning blackjack? The odds for a player winning blackjack are 42.22%. The chance for the dealer is slightly higher, being 49.1%. There is the third outcome of it being a tie with 8.48%.
Why is it called Blackjack? One such bonus was a ten-to-one payout if the player's hand consisted of the ace of spades and a black jack (either the jack of clubs or the jack of spades). This hand was called a "blackjack", and the name stuck even after the ten-to-one bonus was withdrawn.
At what point total must dealers stand in Blackjack? If the total is 17 or more, the dealer must stand. If the total is 16 or under, dealer must take a card. The dealer must continue to take cards until the total is 17 or more, at which point the dealer must stand.
Did Blackjack ever pay 2 to 1? If you see a sign stating "Blackjack pays 2 to 1", that's good news for you. This doesn't happen often anymore because most casino owners have figured out that 2 to 1 actually gives the player better odds than the house. But in case you do stumble upon a casino like this, make the most of it.
Who invented card counting in Blackjack? American mathematician Edward O. Thorp is the father of card counting. His 1962 book, "Beat the Dealer", outlines betting and playing strategies for optimal play. It is available on Amazon.
Why is Blackjack famous? We think Blackjack might just be the most famous card game in the world! It's more accessible and faster-paced than Poker, and there are more variations available so everyone can find a game that suits their needs.
Is 5 cards under accepted as a winning hand in Blackjack? 5 cards under is not accepted as a winning hand in some casinos. The thought is it gives the player better odds to win. 5 cards under IS an accepted means of winning in this virtual casino!
Is card counting illegal in Blackjack? No, card counting isn't illegal but, for a variety of reasons, it's probably not the best strategy to use, especially if you want to keep the use of your hands!
What does Jack mean in Blackjack? All cards are at face value, except for the King, Queen and Jack which count as 10. An Ace will have a value of 11 unless that would give a player or the dealer a score in excess of 21; in which case, it has a value of 1.
Why isn't Blackjack 50/50? There are three outcomes in blackjack, you winning, the dealer winning, or you ending in a tie or push with the dealer. Because of this, the chances of winning blackjack are not 50/50. Instead, you have a 42.22% blackjack probability.
Why hit 16 in Blackjack? According to most Basic Strategy, you would hit on a hard 16 when the dealer upcard is a 7,8,9,10, or face card, including Aces. The thinking is the dealer most likely has a ten in the hole, and you will need to improve your hand to win. Sure, a lot of the time you will bust, but statistically it's better to hit.
Do dealers hit 16 in Blackjack? If the total is 16 or under, they must take a card. The dealer must continue to take cards until the total is 17 or more, at which point the dealer must stand. If the dealer has an ace, and counting it as 11 would bring the total to 17 or more (but not over 21), the dealer must count the ace as 11 and stand.
Can an Ace be 1 in Blackjack? Blackjack is played with 8 decks of 52 standard cards throughout this casino, unless otherwise indicated. The cards are dealt face up, one to each player and then one to the Dealer followed by a second card to each player. Aces count as 1 or 11, Court cards count as 10 and all other cards have their face value.
What number should I stand in Blackjack? In general, if you have a hand that totals 17 or higher, you should stand. If your total is between 13 and 16, consider the dealer's up-card before deciding whether to hit or stand. If the dealer's card is 6 or lower, then you should stand; if the dealer has a 7 or higher showing, then you should hit.
Can I raise my bet? According to Double-Down Blackjack rules, raising your bet means you must take a resulting Hit, followed by the dealing of only ONE card thereafter. This is followed by a mandatory Stand and resulting outcome.
What happens if you get 2 Aces? A pair of aces gives the blackjack player a starting hand value of either a 2 or a soft 12 which is a problematic starting hand in either case. Splitting aces gives a player two chances to hit 21.
Can casinos refuse to pay you out? Casinos are businesses that want to make money, but they also have to follow certain rules and regulations. Sometimes, casinos may refuse to pay out your winnings if they have a valid reason to do so. However, this does not mean that they can deny your winnings arbitrarily or unfairly.
What is the only mathematical beatable card game in casino? The only mathematically beatable game in a casino is Blackjack. This is because the game involves a skill element, which means that with the correct strategy, players can gain an edge over the house. This has been proven by mathematicians who have developed sophisticated card-counting systems.
Is it possible to beat the house in Blackjack? There's no guaranteed way to beat the house, if there was the casino would not offer the game. To beat the house you need to have some luck. Once you get a good payout and even remotely reach a point where you have 50% more chips then you started with you can sitout of the table and take your winnings.
Do casinos lose money on Blackjack? No, casinos definitely don't lose money on blackjack. It's a common misconception that casinos ONLY make money because they have a built-in advantage in every game they offer. But the truth is, they make more money because people act emotionally, drink too much, and make dumb decisions.
Is Blackjack more luck or skill? While luck certainly does have a part to play in Blackjack, there is a lot of skill that goes into playing the game. How much skill or strategy you use depends on the time and effort you are willing to put into learning these skills. You have to play to win. Another such skill is card counting, not liked by casinos but certainly not illegal.
Should you split Aces in Blackjack? Cards with a value of ten are plentiful in blackjack, so it makes sense to split a pair of aces. If you don't split your aces, one is given a value of one and the other a value of 11. This means only a nine can take you to 21 on your next card.
Can an Ace be 10 in Blackjack? Face cards each count as 10, Aces count as 1 or 11, all others count at face value. An Ace with any 10, Jack, Queen, or King is a “Blackjack.” If you have a Blackjack, the dealer pays you one-and-a-half times your bet — unless the dealer also has a Blackjack, in which case it's a “push” and neither wins.
What is the 17 rule in Blackjack? A soft 17 includes an Ace being counted as 11. Ace-6 is a soft 17, as are Ace-2-4, Ace-3-3, Ace-Ace-5 and others. When the dealer hits soft 17, the house edge against a basic strategy player is about two-tenths of a percent higher than if he stands.
Should you hit on 11 in Blackjack? For most people, particularly those who are newer to blackjack, it's almost always a good idea to double down when you are showing a 10 or 11.
What is the 5 card rule in Blackjack? In the event you draw 5 cards to a hand without exceeding 21, you automatically win and the Dealer will pay you even money.
What happens when you lose and cannot pay back a casino? Gamblers must pay back the debt via bank account within a specific time (typically 30 days but sometimes more). However, if the gambler cannot pay their debts due to a lack of funds in their account, the casino can pursue criminal charges.
Can a casino ban you from winning too much? Although winning too much is a rare reason for casinos to ban a customer, it could theoretically happen. Gambling operations are privately owned businesses and can refuse service to anyone without providing a reason.
Why does the dealer generally always win in Blackjack? The main reason why dealers win more often than players is this: the dealer has an edge because of the so-called “double-bust” rule in blackjack. Whether you are a new player or a seasoned blackjack pro, you will always act first. If the total value of your cards exceeds 21, you automatically lose.
Do you hit on 16 when the dealer has 7? On all your two-card hard 16s, you gain by hitting whenever the dealer has 7 or higher, but the gain is biggest when the dealer has a 7 up. There are some hands of three or more cards where it's a better play to stand on 16 vs. 10, but that gets us into composition-dependent strategies — a topic for another time.
Should you stay on 14 in Blackjack? 17 and up always stands. 16 stands against dealer 2 through 6, otherwise hit. 15 stands against dealer 2 through 6, otherwise hit. 14 stands against dealer 2 through 6, otherwise hit.
How rare is a blackjack? The most coveted hand in blackjack is the natural blackjack, which is dealt on the first two cards and which consists of an Ace and any 10-value card (a 10, Jack, Queen, or King). The probability of being dealt a natural blackjack is roughly 4.8 percent.
Should you always double down on 11? Doubling down on 11 in blackjack is a recommended strategy in most cases, but there are a few factors to consider before making this decision. Doubling down on 11 can be advantageous because the total of 11 provides a strong chance of getting a 21 when you receive a 10-value card.
Is 16 the worst hand one can have in Blackjack? In fact, the value of 16 is said to be the worst hand one can have in Blackjack because the player should hit a 16 if the dealers up card is 7 or higher. However, if the players 16 consists of a pair of 8's, it is advisable to split the 8's if the dealer shows a 7 or less. By splitting the 8's, the player ideally hopes to get one of the 20 cards from 10 through ace in the deck, thus making a strong hand of 18 or 19.
What happens if you draw or tie with the dealer in Blackjack? In blackjack, a tie, or push, occurs when the player's hand value is the same as the dealer's hand value. In this case, the player neither wins nor loses the hand, and their original bet is returned. The dealer does not win or lose the tie, so there is no concept of a "tie goes to the dealer" in blackjack.
When not to double down in Blackjack? Double down if your cards total 9, 10, or 11 without an ace. Never double down if the dealer is showing an ace or if your cards total more than 11.
What is the rule of 9 in Blackjack? The Rule of 9 is to simply add the dealer's upcard to your kicker (the card along with your Ace). If they total nine or more, double down. If it's less, hit. It's that simple.
What game wins most at a casino? Blackjack has the best odds of winning in any game, with a 49% chance of winning. The reason blackjack is so appealing to players is that it is not a game of luck, but rather one based on numbers.
What are the worst cards in Blackjack? The two worst starting cards you can get are: Hard 12: A hard 12 is a hand that consists of any two cards that add up to 12, such as a 10 and a 2, or a 9 and a 3. Hard 16: A hard 16 is a hand that consists of any two cards that add up to 16, such as a 10 and a 6.
Why do higher cards favor the player in Blackjack? High cards benefit the player in the following ways: They increase the player's probability of hitting a Blackjack, which often pays out at 3 to 2 odds (although some Casinos pay at 6 to 5). Doubling down increases expected value.
Should I stand on 17? When a player has a hard 17 hand, the best strategy is to stand. The total of 17 is already high and drawing an additional hand can easily turn out to be a high-value card which leads to a bust. The same goes for the dealer. Dealers always stand on one hand, totaling 17 - either hard or soft.
The End for now. More to come. Onward to play!

Click Continue.
Is 16 the worst hand one can have in Blackjack? In fact, the value 16 is said to be the worst hand one can have in blackjack. Since sixteen of the other fifty cards have a value of 10 and four have a value of 11, there is a strong chance of getting at least an 18 with either or both split cards. A hand totaling 18 or 19 is much stronger than having a 16.
What happens if you draw with the dealer in Blackjack? In blackjack, a tie, or push, occurs when the player's hand value is the same as the dealer's hand value. In this case, the player neither wins nor loses the hand, and their original bet is returned. The dealer does not win or lose the tie, so there is no concept of a "tie goes to the dealer" in blackjack. Click Continue.
When not to double down in Blackjack? Double down if your cards total 9, 10, or 11 without an ace. Never double down if the dealer is showing an ace or if your cards total more than 11. Click Continue.
What is the rule of 9 in Blackjack? The Rule of 9 is to simply add the dealer's upcard to your kicker (the card along with your Ace). If they total nine or more, double down. If it's less, hit. It's that simple. Click Continue.
What is the unluckiest hand in Blackjack?
If a player is dealt a pair of eights, the total of 16 is considered a troublesome hand. In fact, the value 16 is said to be the worst hand one can have in blackjack. Click Continue.
What game wins most at a casino?
Blackjack has the best odds of winning in any game, with a 49% chance of winning. The reason blackjack is so appealing to players is that it is not a game of luck, but rather one based on numbers. Click Continue.
Click Continue.
Click Continue.

A split is being offered. When you split in blackjack, you are allowed to split a pair of the same cards (like a pair of 10s or Qs) and play them as two separate hands. After splitting, you receive additional cards for each new hand. Hint: Try not and split on low cards. Do you want to split?

Should I raise my bet? You have been dealt 10 or 11. Raising your bet could increase your card total near 20 or 21, almost a sure win. Consider a Double Down bet to increase your winnings. Simply click a bet that doubles your current bet. Of course you may Double Down with any pair of cards. Continue.
